The silicone around a kitchen sink does more than make the bench look neat. It seals the joins where water can otherwise slip through, and when it fails, water can find its way into the cupboards below.
At a unit in Mortdale, NSW, High Demand Restoration attended after a report that the kitchen sink needed resealing, with slight water reported beneath the kitchen cupboards.

The existing silicone seal around the kitchen sink was removed, along with the silicone on the adjoining splashback and benchtop edges. Taking the old silicone out first lets the new seal bond properly to clean surfaces.

New silicone was then applied to the relevant joints around the sink and along the splashback and benchtop edges, completing the resealing works.

The benchtop corners and edges were also sealed, closing the joins where the benchtop meets the walls.
Kitchens see water every day, from washing up to wiping down benches. Silicone seals stop that water from getting into the gaps around the sink and along the back of the benchtop.
Over time, silicone can crack, shrink or come away from the surface. Once that happens, water can seep under the benchtop and into the cupboards below. Left unchecked, ongoing moisture can lead to swollen cabinetry and water damage.
